1934 - Original Recipe
Hops Ointment
For this specific 1934 recipe- The formulary stated that this ointment was useful for painful piles( hemorrhoids) and cold sores. While I am sure it will work on those ailments as well, we know that hops has a lot of other benefits ( Below)
Hops is also used for:
Keeping the skin young because it provides a large number of antioxidants. It helps the body fight against free radicals and gives the skin a radiant and youthful glow. It also helps with skin inflammation and reduces scarring, and it can help you sleep. Hops and its extract have benefits that researchers have discovered it inhibits the growth of five different bacteria that cause acne. This will help those with oily or sweaty summer skin. Use this on your skin because it helps keep the skin soft and treats inflammation. It helps fight against wrinkles, eczema, and other skin issues like rashes. It's great for anxiety and helps promote sleep. It's just a really handy ointment to have around. They say it also helps with dandruff and hair loss, sore muscles, menstrual cramps, and headaches... the list goes on and on.. Great for open wounds too!
NOTE: If you have ever smelled Hops. It's VERY VERY strong with a hint of sweet bitterness. It's more of a strong bitter herbal scent. Just like those of you who have gotten used to the Gypsy Astringent scent, you will have to get use to this scent. The helping benefits far outweighs the smell of it. :) If you like the really strong hop smell in beer then you will like this scent. Some say hops in beer don't smell like powdered and dried hops- some say it does. So I just wanted to keep everyone informed. We love this great historical recipe and hope you will too!
